The 10th Chennai International Film Festival was organized by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation with the support of Government of Tamil Nadu and Film Fraternity from 13th to 20th December 2012.
FESTIVAL VENUES: The 10th Edition of CIFF screened more than 160 films from more than 57 countries in Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony, Inox (2 screens), Sathyam (2 Screens), Rani Seethai Hall and Casino
WORLD CINEMA SECTION
The Best of World cinema made in 2012 was screened during the festival which included award winning and acclaimed films like
AMOUR by Michael Haneka : won 2012 Cannes Palme D’Or (Golden Palme) award plus screened in more than 50 festivals within a span of 6 months
2012 Venice Golden Lion award winner PIETA (South Korea) by Kim ki-duk (it won total four awards in Venice)
The latest creation of Moshen Makhmalbaf : The film THE GARDENER (Iran)
LE GRAND SOIR (The Grand Evening) (France) by Gustave de Kervern which won Special Jury award in 2012 Cannes
SISTER (France / Switzerland ) by Ursula Meier : Won the 2012 Berlin Silver
Bear Award Film WAR WITCH (Canada) by Kim Nguyen which got Rachel Mwanza the best actress award in Berlin 2012

Screening of Indian Classics like Chandralekha – Tamil,Mega Sandhesham – Telugu, Pather panchali – Bengal, Guide – Hindi, Dweepa – Kannada, Vasthuhara or Thampu – Malayalam
SLICE OF CHENNAI Docu Contest
A two minute documentary contest was conducted in association with The Hindu. Entrepreneur and actor Aravind Swami, renowned actor Khushbu and Chennai historian V. Sriram were the judges.The top three entries were screened on the closing day of CIFF & sponsored by Casa Grande, they received the prize of Rs, 30,000, Rs. 20,000 & Rs. 10,000 respectively from Shri Amitabh Bachan.
OPEN FORUM about films in International Festivals was conducted in Rani Seethai Hall attended by eminent film critics and personalities Film Producers / Directors.
DELEGATES FROM ABROAD -11 Directors, 2 Festival Directors, 1 Producer & 1 Actress. About 15 foreign representatives connected with the festival films attended CIFF.
INVITEE DELEGATES FROM INDIA - 10 Directors & 5 Officials from Foreign Missions Ambassadors plus more than three Intl Film Festival directors attended the festival
Opening and Closing Functions had highlight musical performances of classical & folk styles. The closing ceremony was also webcast live.
Students from A R Rahman’s Music School performed a medley of world music during the opening Ceremony
Closing Award Function was graced by the magnetic presence of Actor Shri Amitabh Bachchan - Indian Film Idol of International repute.
Special highlights of earlier festivals
Master classes by eminent film maker Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan in 2005
Chennai Talent Campus in 2008 and identified fresh talents.
First of its kind “Flash Mob” at the express avenue mall to generate the required buzz for the festival in 2011
An eminent artist sung and painted the portrait of the chief guest Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, live on stage
A popular flautist from Kerala performed live fusion with his band in 2011 by dancing and playing the flute at the same time
CIFF conducts open forums regularly enabling the film fraternity & movie buffs to interact with eminent film makers
Student volunteers work on the CIFF DAILY bulletin, make announcements in all venue apart from ushering in the delegates. Student volunteers also make the CIFF event coverage film to be screened on the last day.
The CIFF Award consist of a Bronze Trophy which was designed in a contest among upcoming artists in the Madras School of Fine Art, Chennai.
