The 8th Chennai International Film Festival had 14 Indian Panorama - movies, 12 Tamil movies and over 135 international movies screened across four theaters in the city.
The 8th Chennai International Film Festival dedicated itself to the theme of anti piracy. An open debate about piracy with eminent personalities from the film fraternity was both educating and enlightening
An eminent panel of jury members consisting of Singitham Srinivasan Rao, Charuhasan and Archana judged the Tamizh films in Competition Category.
8th CIFF Awards 2010 & Trophy
1. Best film in competition- 'Angadi Theru".
2. Second Best film- 'Kalavani'
3. Best Director- 'Prabhu Solomon' for Mynaa
4. Special Jury Award for individual excellence - 'Parthiban' for Ayirathil Oruvan.
'Orr Iravu' took the special award for independent films with a cash prize.
One of the important and interesting awards introduced during the 8th Chennai International Film Festival is the Film Buff Award for ardent film viewers. The aim of this award is to connect directly with the audience. It is a web based award, given to film buffs who watch the maximum number of movies and send their individual views about the movie on a daily basis.
The online Film buff Award went to Dr.Varun Kumar of Velachery .
The open forum discussion with the directors and invitee delegates was one of the key features of the festival.
A four page news bulletin- The CIFF DAILY reported on the day to day happenings of the film festival, interviews with celebrities, celeb opinions, photo gallery of events etc.
MOP Vaishnav College girls were volunteers in all the venues and also worked on the CIFF DAILY.
The CIFF Facebook page and the Comment section in the CIFF Website had active viewers interaction on all days throughout the festival period.
Red Carpet Screenings has celebrities introducing the films on all 7 days.
