The 8th Chennai International Film Festival

The 8th Edition of Chennai International Film Festival will be held in Chennai from December 15 to 23, 2010. It is being organized by ICAF, a film society that has an experience of more than 33 years of promoting good cinema with support from the Government of Tamil Nadu, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and the Film Federation of India.

In its 8th year, the festival is being given a makeover thanks to a group of passionate actors and technicians from the Tamil film industry along with the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) seeking to make this an internationally acclaimed film festival. The Tamil Nadu Government has given a grant of Rs. 25 lakhs this year for the festival.

The Festival aims at providing a common platform for the film fraternity to show its expression through films; understand other cultures and project the excellence of this art form; contribute to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of the social and cultural ethos; and promote friendship and co-operation among peoples of the world.

This year the festival is being actively supported for the first time by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) and Film Federation of India (FFI). The advisory committee comprises of Mr. Ramanaryanan, Mr. P. Vasu, Ms Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Ms Revathy, Ms Rohini, Ms Khushbu, Mr. C Kalyan, Mr. L Suresh, Mr. Ravi Kottarakara, Mr. Katrgadda Prasad, Mr. Sarath Kumar, Ms Radhika Sarath Kumar , Mr. Yuhi Sethu, Mr. Mohan, Mr. Gautam Vasudev Menon, Mr. B.Ramakrishnan, Mr.. S.Ve. Shekher, Mr. Sivan Kannan , Mr. Thangaraj, Mr. Santhanam, Mr. Srinivasan and Mr. Murali. This year the film fraternity of South India, especially those mentioned are directly involving themselves in raising funds and also to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.

More than 3000 delegates are expected to register and several personalities from film and related industries would be invited. Delegates would cover an entire gamut of people from Foreign Missions, film industry trade unions / associations, film institutes in Chennai, visual communication colleges, information departments and general public interested in world cinema. A festive brochure, The 8th CIFF Daily Bulletins and Pamplets on Screening Schedules will be distributed to the registered and invited delegates.Additionally the Festival publications like the souvenir and press coverages are being sent to the Foreign Missions in India for their libraries, film producers, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals Library and also the National Film Archive Library for preservation record.

About 12 films will participate in the Competition for Tamil Feature films.The India Panorama films category will have about 12 films too. About 12 foreign film  personalities and 15 Indian film personalities will be attending the festivals as special invitees. An open panel discussion and press meet on the Anti Piracy campaign  will take place on  19th Dec Sunday afternoon, at Woodlands with eminent personalities participating.

The films will be screened in three centrally situated venues in Chennai City.Two screens in Royapettah at Woodlands and Woodlands Symphony,
One screen at INOX in the popular City Centre Mall on Radakrishnan Salai that leads to the famous Marina beach. One screen at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce situated on the arterial main road of Chennai City- Anna Salai, near Gemini Flyover.
